Professional Teachers Exchange Programme Summer 2024 : Sichuan Deyang No. 5 Middle School (8 -12 July)

During the period of 8 July to 12 July 2024, the Mathematics teachers from Sichuan Deyang No. 5 Middle School participated in an educational exchange program in Hong Kong organized by SPICE. The program aimed to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics through cultural exchange and workshops. The itinerary included visits to various educational institutions and cultural landmarks. Notable speakers during the program included Mr. CHENG Sze Man Robert, the Curriculum Development Officer from the Hong Kong Education Bureau, who delivered a lecture on “Mathematics beyond the Classroom – From the International Student Assessment Program to the Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad.” The program also featured Mr. Roy Li, a senior teacher specializing in mathematics and information technology, who presented a lecture on “How to Inspire Students’ Enthusiasm for Learning Mathematics.” Furthermore, Dr. Leung Kin Ping, a senior teacher, shared his teaching experiences and insights into integrating technology tools in mathematics education. The program was also supported by Mr. Tam Chi Leung, an adjunct lecturer from the Faculty of Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who led a workshop on “Paper Mathematics: Unveiling the Secrets of Cubes” as part of the students’ joyful learning experience at St. Paul’s Convent School. The group also visited the Jockey Club, Campus of Hong Kong Metropolitan University and participated in a workshop there by Professor Philip Wang.

The Professional Teachers Exchange Programme provided the teachers with valuable opportunities to gain new perspectives, exchange ideas, and explore innovative approaches to mathematics education, ultimately enriching their teaching practices and contributing to the advancement of mathematics education at Sichuan Deyang No. 5 Middle School.
